As an American i am ashamed to admit i grew up thinking of Bulgaria and Eastern European nations as kind of comedic but sad, backwards and poor, a bunch of rustic communist peasants in huts eating beets. But as i get older and a bit wiser and learn more i have more and more respect for these people, with their distinct and deep cultural heritages and many comtributions to mankind. Part of me really feels like i would be happier living in a place like these, they are more like what America used to be than America is now. This country is just soulless and commercial and actively forgetting our entire heritage. I'm sick of roads and stores and McDonalds and Walmart, and i don't even live in one of the regions where that's all you see. All the old farmland is being filled up with housing developments and urban sprawl. And even most American religion is pretty silly and sad, in my eyes. Maybe I'm just idealizing things, but i really feel like i would fit in better in a place like one of these. A little old house in the countryside, a dirt road maybe, an old car if possible. A roof and bed, and enough food to get by. You pretty much aren't allowed to live like that in the US. Have to pay your property taxes, after all. Have to meet building codes. Have to have a car to get to where you work. Ironic that Americans talk so much about being free when as far as i can see, in terms of everyday life, most of the world has a lot more freedom to do what they want than Americans do. Sorry to rant here, been really annoyed lately. I feel like i can't take it any more.
